      Biography

Ellen van der Woude is a Dutch ceramist who lives and works in Luxembourg. Her work consists of unique pieces, all handmade. Defying the limits of clay and porcelain, she creates delicate and imaginative sculptures reminiscent of anemones, sea urchins and corals.

      Artistic approach

For Ellen, creating an object is a kind of natural growth. There is a vague idea that develops little by little. It is sometimes unconscious and the result of visual impressions from nature, travel, other materials. Each object is created from prints and small elements made by hand, one by one.

      Technique

The careful use of different techniques, changing the size and direction of the elements, using materials such as engobes, pigments and oxides, makes the works natural and organic, as if they were alive. She likes to preserve irregularities more than anything, because even nature itself has its flaws.
